There were 2-3 things that didn’t happen. E.g.) There will be more foldable phones but they didn’t arrive So there are some things, but I was right 90% of the time. And in this post, I’ll try to Review smartphones in 2022!

Cameras - The rear cameras have a primary sensor of 64MP/108MP+8MP+2MP(macro/depth sensors).

Now in 2022, that trend will change! And I want to suggest the brands please remove these 2MP sensors. And the 2022 smartphones might come with 2 or 3 primary sensors, meaning you’d get 50MP+48MP+48MP/64MP+48MP+48MP. Meaning all 3 sensors will be primary & by the end of 2022, we’ll see flagship phones like this.

In fact, by the start of 2022, there will be some flagship phones with dual primary sensors with a smaller 3rd sensor. So that’s 1 good thing that’s going to happen in the camera department.

Last year, I predicted that 108MP cameras would be the next thing & it was true as we saw many phones with a 108MP primary sensor. And in 2022, you’ll see 1 or 2 phones that might come with 200MP sensors/resolution. So that’s interesting!

And 108MP will be very common even in some mid-range phones & you’ll get to see it so that’s a good thing. And yes, this 1 trend will be in the camera department.

FastCharging - Last year I said we’ll get fast charging & many phones in 2021 came with 50/66/67W fast charging. There are some phones near 100W fast charging as well, but 2022 phones might have 100/120/150W fast charging! And not just in flagships, even in mid-range phones we might see 100W fast charging.

But even though charging capacity is increasing, the battery capacity might stick to 5000mAh as that’s the ideal sweet spot (4500-5000mAh)I don’t think we’d see many phones with 6000/7000mAh battery as it makes the phone heavy & it’s not required. Because your phones’ SoC in 2022, will mostly be based on 4Nm especially in flagships & upper mid-range phones.

So being 4Nm, they’ll be far more power-efficient & with that, the 5000mAh battery will last longer!

And yes, in charging, wireless will become mainstream. Even the premium/mid-range phones will have wireless charging. And you might also see air-charging smartphones, meaning you don’t have to keep the phone touched. If you keep the charger & the phone can be charged even from half or 1 meter away.

Even though that technology will arrive by the end of 2022, I think something like that will happen!

Display - To tell you, FHD with a maximum of 2K display smartphones might be seen but FHD+ will dominate.

But the material/technology used in them would be different. E.g. E5 AMOLED screens might arrive which are more power-efficient.

So, the display technology would get more advanced but in terms of resolution, I don’t think you’d see 4K screens on a phone.

Refresh Rate - Yes, a 120Hz fast refresh rate will go mainstream. In fact, even mass-market phones(Rs 10-15K)will get a fast refresh rate as it’s already started. I won’t be surprised if a Rs 9-10K phone has a 90/120Hz screen. It’ll come, that’s going to happen in 2022 for sure

On the other hand, to talk about flagship phones, then we’ve reached a 144Hz fast refresh rate. I’m not sure but it might go beyond that, 200Hz? It’s possible but I’m not sure as of now.

OS - Android is still very fragmented, as even though Android 12 has arrived many of them are still using Android 10. And that’s how it’ll go forward & by 2022 end we’ll see many phones on Android 12. Android 13 might get released by May/June/July. And very few phones would be on the latest OS. So next year we’ll see maximum phones on Android 12. That’s probably what’ll happen.

RAM - It’ll go beyond 12! Yes, 8GB/12GB RAM phones have become very common, but I’ll Inform you what, by the end of 2021, we’re already going to see a 20GB RAM phone! And that’s going to continue. By 2022 end, we might get phones with 24GB or more RAM. That’s overkill! But still, smartphones would come with more than 16GB RAM!

Storage - The lower-end phones had a 64GB base variant until now but will be shifted to 128GB.So most brands even for mid-range phones won’t have 64GB but 128GB storage. And I think it’s keeping up with the times as people need more storage. While flagship phones would have 1TB storage.

And as an exception, Apple might have 2TB on Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro & Pro Max. You never know!

There’s another trend that I thought would be common in 2021, compact phones! There weren’t many but still, brands are working on compact/smaller display phones. So, we might see them, but it’ll be a niche segment. The majority of phones will come with 6.4”/6.5”/6.7” display size big phones.

Small phones might be around 3-4 in number & not more than that according to me and there’s no market for it, according to me. What do you think?

There’s an important point: would the 2022 phones be cheaper than the 2021 phones?

Price - Unfortunately no. I hoped but no, according to me, it won’t be so because the chip shortage will last till mid or end 2021. And due to that, the demand will be more while the supply will be less. And so, the price won’t get low. Now, the mid-range phones’/higher end phones’ price will be the same or more.

Even if it's the same as in 2021, I’ll be happy, but I think smartphone prices will increase by 5-10% for sure.

Foldable Phones - They weren’t mainstream in 2021, but 2022 will see many foldable phones! Not just foldable but sliding phones/wraparound phones etc might enter! Because flexible display technology is moving ahead & has become mature, so we’ll get foldable phones by almost all brands. Yes, Google said they won’t launch the Pixel fold, but all other mainstream brands would launch their foldable/sliding phones! And we’d see many different form factors like wraparound phones that can be wrapped on your wrist in 2022.

And finally, overall as an ecosystem, smartphones are going to be even more important. Many things are going to be operated through smartphones. Your smart home, smartwatch, whatever you wear or own at home can be operated with a smartphone. And that’s what IoT is all about. So IoT is going to keep on increasing & smartphones are going to be at the center of it.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G Product Review

It’s the 3rd generation foldable phone but this is going to be my first impression after opening the box & let’s see what all the Z Fold 3 offers

You get the phone, right upfront & it’s open in tablet form. You get a Type C to Type C cable, a sim card tool & some documentation.

This is beautiful & now it really feels like foldable phones have matured! The Z Fold 3 has matured.

It’s refined, the folding mechanism truly feels refined! In-Hand Feel - It’s slightly on the heavier side as it’s a tablet & a phone that’s equivalent to 2 phones. But still, it doesn’t feel that big in the hands. You can carry it around. Its form factor is narrow & fits very well in the hand.

It is about 14.4mm thick & which makes it on the thicker side but when you open it, it’s hardly 6.4mm(one of the thinnest).

So, it’s not bad at all & feels good to hold in the hand. And doesn’t feel too big. It’s heavy being around 280-290g, let’s test it out! So, I think it’ll be 285g.

There are a lot of moving parts in a foldable phone, but the fit & finish looks very refined! The back is flat with the Samsung logo at the centre that used to be on the left. And it’s a piano black finish. I’m pleasantly surprised with its in-hand feel. So well done Samsung on the fit & finish!

Build Quality - The frame is obviously metal. In fact, Samsung says, it’s an armour aluminium frame,

which is one of the toughest on a smartphone. And you get Gorilla Glass both above and below, which is the toughest glass.

Ports & Buttons - It’s going to be different. Above, on the left, you get a speaker grill & a microphone. You get 2 microphones. So, a total of 3 microphones. They are noise-cancelling ones for video shooting. On the right-hand side, you get a volume rocker, a power on/off button that doubles up as a fingerprint sensor. On the left-hand side, you get a sim card tray. And below you get a USB Type C & a microphone on the right. There’s a speaker grill on the left I’m telling you based on its open form. So, lots of ports, buttons & microphones.

The sim card tray will have a dual nano card slot. The cover display is a 6.2” AMOLED display with a 120Hz fast refresh rate. And the inner display is a 7.6” AMOLED E4 display with a 120Hz fast refresh rate. The outer display is a dynamic AMOLED 2x display that gives a peak brightness of 1500 Nits.

The outer display is going to be used more. And being a 6.2” big display you’d do 70-80% of the things on it and you should not have any problems in direct sunlight. The inner display has 1200 Nits of peak brightness.

Specifications - It’s based on the Qualcomm SD 888 SoC, & there are 2 variants - 12+256GB & 12+512GB.We have the 12+256GB variant. The RAM type is LPDDR5 & the storage type is UFS 3.1. It has a 4400mAh battery & Samsung claims that the display is 25% more power-efficient & consumes less battery. It has a big 6.2” screen & for that, the 4400mAh battery might not run for the whole day.

Under normal usage, it might hold throughout the day. I'll test it out obviously, but it should have been more. There’s no adapter in the box but the phone supports 25W charging. And it also supports 10W wireless charging. And there’s reverse wireless charging as well.

Performance - We ran the AnTuTu Benchmark & got a score above 7.22L.The gaming performance & playing on the big screen is fun! It’s a good display & you can play any game.

Like BGMI or COD & you’ll have a lot of fun. You can play them on the highest settings. In fact, we played BGMI on the 6.2” screen & it works quite well. The screen is a little narrow because of the aspect ratio. But we couldn’t play COD on it because of the ratio. But you can play BGMI on the outer screen. The ratio of the outer screen is 24.5:9, which generally is 18:9 or 20:9. And that’s why it’s narrow with a long screen.

Cameras - There are 5 cameras in total. And all 5 cameras can be used as selfie cameras. On the rear, you get a 12MP(primary)+12MP(telephoto)+12MP(ultrawide) triple camera setup. On the front(cover display), you get a 10MP punch-hole selfie sensor. The main screen under-display camera is a 4MP sensor. And I like the fact that Samsung tried using the 4MP under-display camera. Its quality is ok, it takes a lot of post-processing. And the photos are hazy. But it gets clear during post-processing.

You already have a front 10MP & 12MP on the back, which you can use as a selfie. Let me tell you.

So there’s 4MP, I can use this because of the front screen. And you can use the rear camera setup as a selfie too! This is having the ultrawide sensor.

You might use the under-display camera during Zoom meetings/video calls. Or else, you’ll use the main camera setup. So that’s nice. One good thing is they aren’t after MPs. The 12MP+12MP+12MP clicks good photos. We clicked some photos & videos with it & the clarity, colour & contrast etc is quite impressive!

I’m watching it on the screen so maybe it’s looking good but overall, I was mighty impressed with the photo & video quality. But do wait for the full review. It comes with flex mode, where you can click photos with the under-display camera. There’s another good thing, you can hold it in one hand even after opening it.

It is not too wide & even the average hands won’t have problems. Small hands might have some difficulties. But, for normal/average hands look at this! You can easily close & hold it as well.

There are 2-3 things that stand out! 1 - It’s IPX8 certified, which is a big thing. It’s not dust, but water-resistant & nothing will happen even if it falls in the water. It’s good for a foldable phone to achieve an IP rating! So that’s impressive.

2 - It has an S Pen support. You get 2 different S Pens, which you can buy as accessories. S Pen Fold Edition & S Pen Pro which you’ll have to buy separately. And for that big screen, the S Pen looks very nice.

Multimedia - There are AMOLED screens, the outer is an HD+ screen while the inner is a 2K screen. So, when consuming multimedia, use the big screen, it’ll be a lot of fun! You get stereo speakers(top & bottom-firing). And you can enjoy them in any orientation without covering them. The speakers positioning is on the side, & because of that even if you hold it horizontally, the speakers come above on both sides. And holding it vertically will make the speakers come out on top & bottom. So multimedia experience on this one is unmatched with that big screen.

The audio quality is loud & very good! You get Wide vine L1 support, so streaming on Netflix will be fun! You also get Camera2Api support. There’s no notification light, no FM Radio & SAR values are within limits.

 It has 2 LED lamps (generally you get only 1), 3-speed motion sensors with a touch control panel. It also has an oil collector tray. Its noise level is 58dB. Its power consumption is 190W. Generally, all chimneys consume power between 170W-190W.

 It weighs approx. 15Kg. In the box, you get a chimney and an installation kit. You get a 1-year comprehensive warranty and a lifetime warranty on the motor, which is a marketing gimmick. It is only a 10-year warranty and not a lifetime warranty.

It costs INR12,000 + INR1800 installation charges. It is a good chimney but it is slightly noisy. Its suction capacity is good with good sensors. But the biggest con is Hind ware’s poor installation services in most of the cities. Make sure you check its customer services of appliances before buying it.

The food can be Auto Defrosted. It has the steam clean option, a deodorize, and a child lock. Its starter kit has all these things. It has a 1-year product and 3 years extra warranty on magnetron. IFB promises 6 years of spare part support which is good.

Now let's talk about the pros and cons. It comes with all functions and there will be no issue making any type of food. One con- it will take time to because it has 800W power is a major concern when you roast or grill. You will need high microwave power to roast or grill the food. In this microwave, you will get stainless steel cavity & 251 auto cook menu. And let me tell you, I haven't checked 21 dishes of these 251 since I bought them.

But it is subjective. It comes with interleaved technology, steam cleaning, and a child lock. Its starter kit has all these things. It has one year and extra four years warranty on magnetron. Now let's talk about the pros and cons. It is a good microwave oven with easy to operate functions. It has good power. There are few cons. It has no rotisserie.
