It does not provide any vitamins or minerals. These are the things that the body needs. Excessive consumption of these substances is harmful to health. As the colour of all these five elements is white, it is called 'white poison'.

Sugar is called a junk food. Because it does not provide any nutrients. It also lacks vitamins and minerals. Excessive consumption of sugar increases the risk of obesity and diabetes. So, in the future, one must face serious problems like heart attack, cancer, brain stroke.

Health problems: Excess sugar consumption can lead to metabolic diseases such as high cholesterol, insulin resistance and high blood pressure. Excessive consumption of sugar causes fat deposits on the stomach. This leads to obesity, tooth decay, diabetes, and metabolic disorders.

If it is consumed excessively, the digestion or metabolism of calcium in the body is disturbed. Calcium is absorbed from sugar, bones, blood, and teeth. Too much sugar affects the digestive system. Vitamin 'B' is deficient in the body and the nervous system is also seen to be adversely affected.

Refined sugar causes certain chemical processes in the brain, causing the release of serotonin chemicals; We feel smart; But after some time, the person again gets tired, irritable, and depressed.

What are the options? People suffering from diabetes should consume natural sweeteners i.e. fruits without consuming sugar. Apart from that, instead of sugar, jaggery, honey, dates, fruits, fruit juice etc. should be consumed to maintain good health. Honey is a great substitute for sugar. If it contains fructose or glucose, it contains many minerals and vitamins.

Maida: Maida is made from wheat itself; But when it is processed, all the nutrients are gone. Apart from this, chemicals are used to increase the shelf life of flour products. It damages the body.

Health problems: Flour is called the glue of guts. It contains zero amount of fibre or fibrous components. Due to this, the digestive system slows down and becomes heavy. As digestion slows down, metabolism also slows down. This leads to weight gain, stress, headaches, and migraines.

The bran is separated from the wheat during the flour-making process, which is essential for digestion. Consuming flour increases bad cholesterol levels. Due to this, many health problems like diabetes, high blood pressure etc. occur.

What is the alternative?

Maida can be eaten in small quantity sometimes. Avoid its excessive consumption. Instead choose some healthy options. If you want to eat samosa, you should use dough. To make naan, mix one part wheat flour, one-part jowar flour and one part millet flour.

Consume wheat flour bread, noodles and pasta, macaroni. Nowadays all these products made from wheat are available in the market. Some foods made from wheat flour can be stored for a while.

 Salt: Many people need more salt in their food. They prefer the taste of salty and spicy foods; But these things are harmful to health. According to the World Health Organization, salt or table salt intake should not exceed 5 grams per day.


Risk increases with salt: Salt should be consumed for the normal functioning of the body. However, excessive consumption of salt is an invitation to serious diseases; But eating too much salt causes problems like high blood pressure, hypertension etc.

Suffering from persistent hypertension can lead to heart disease, stroke, and kidney problems. Also, consuming too much salt causes iron deficiency in the blood. This increases the acidity and keeps on feeling hungry even if you are not hungry. So, eating too many leads to obesity.

How to reduce salt intake: Do not consume too much salt in the diet, reduce the intake of salty foods, do not add salt to curd. Oily foods should be consumed less.

Do not add salt while eating raw salad. Papads, chutneys and processed foods should be consumed sparingly. Individuals who suffer from heart, kidney or lung disease should consume low sodium salt or consult their doctor.

White rice or white rice: White rice also falls under refined grains or refined carbs. During refining, the chaff and bran are removed, leaving out the natural B complex, iron and fibre. White rice that is polished to make it attractive depletes the nutrients in the rice.

Individuals who consume white rice five times a week have a 17 percent increased risk of developing diabetes.
