Abhyanga – Massaging the entire body with medicated-scented warm oil is Abhayanga.

Benefits of Abhyanga Bath

Abhyanga confirms the body. In Ayurveda, while explaining the benefits of Abhyanga, it is said that a thin person will become healthy and at the same time, a fat person will also have a healthy body. That is, abhyanga is beneficial for enhancing and maintaining the physique. Along with this, the immunity of the body also increases.

That means not only a body that looks attractive, but also a healthy body is created. Having such a strong body strengthens the ability to survive from infection. Increases immunity from infection. That's why those who practice regular abhyanga in small changes, get sick less. They do not need to be taken to hospital frequently.

Abhyanga can calm the body that has been sedated by exertion. After walking a lot, if your feet are sore, it feels better after massage. Sleep better. Abhyanga is also used for those who do hard work, to compensate for this wear and tear in their body, to maintain flexibility, to relieve fatigue.

Abhyanga is also beneficial for maintaining the strength of the body. But the above benefits become visible only in those who practice Abhyanga in daily activities.

As much as Abhyanga has physical benefits, there are positive benefits for mental health as well. Skin is one of the five senses. The skin covers the entire body. There is no part of the body where there is no skin covering. The entire skin is covered with pores. Therefore, the oil that is applied at the time of abhyanga, penetrates inside and because it is a sense organ, this sense of affection reaches the mind. In our daily life, we are aware of it every now and then.

You feel sleepy while massaging your body. Feel calm. After massaging the head, it feels cool and light. Applying oil to the palms leads to restful sleep. As the body gets rid of oil, the spasm in the muscle’s decreases, but the restlessness in the mind also decreases. Abhyanga must be done in a state of extreme stress during the exam days, as a sense of peace is felt.

Abhyanga clears vision. Improves eyesight. Applying oil to the body improves blood circulation in the body. Abhyanga helps in excreting the unnecessary elements from the body. Excess body heat is reduced. Eyes are the symbol of Tej Mahabhuta. It is necessary to control the heat in it, which is caused by Abhyanga, and the vision is cleared and maintained.

The effect of Abhyanga is felt quickly on the skin. The skin glows, the skin becomes soft and smooth, the skin brightens, the radiance is improved, and a better complexion is achieved. The skin becomes baby-like and sukumar (delicate). But, though thin, it is strong because of its good flexibility. i.e., cracking, cutting, roughening, etc. doesn't happen Improves skin quality. Improves skin tone and increases lifespan.

As the stress is reduced and the body is relaxed, the mind is calm and happy, and the sleep begins peacefully. Lack of sleep (insomnia), short sleep (kandit nidra) and excessive dreaming, incomplete sleep, etc. There are no complaints. A good start to the day is to feel refreshed, energetic, and positive in the morning. It also improves the strength and ability to work hard.

Such various benefits can be availed by just one Abhyanga. Ignoring him will not work. Some patients say that Abhyanga is happening during rainy season, Diwali. But don't be in the heat, Dad! Feels so sticky! For such, it is said in Ayurveda that Abhyanga should be done only in three places instead of the whole body. Regular application of this third party (Ayava i.e., Shirapradesh (head), Shravan (ears) and Pada (feet) i.e., Karnapurana (ear oil)) is very important.

When asked to do abhyanga, some questions arise. Like when to apply, how long to rub, whether to apply soap? Which oil to use etc. Answers to the questions are as follows-

Abhyanga means applying oil to the body. A routine is an activity carried out every day. Abhyanga is one of them. A light application of the oil to the skin of the entire body, with a little rubbing, is expected. There are mainly three types of massage. Abhyang and Mardan.

In this type of Abhyanga, oil is gently applied and rubbed. You can do it yourself. Oil should be applied to the whole body before taking a bath every day. While applying the oil to the hands and feet, apply the oil in such a direction from bottom to top. When applying to the back and chest, it should be applied from the inside to the outside.

Make a round (circular) abhyanga of the stomach clockwise. All the joints of the hands and feet should also be rubbed with circular oil. There is also a reason for applying the oil in this way. The love on the limbs increases from top to bottom. Even if the oil is applied like this, it cannot enter the pores. Stays on hair. This should not happen, so oil should be applied in opposite direction i.e., from bottom to top (from toes to shoulders and from feet to thighs). Oil should be rubbed round the stomach. This is a specific reason. The pulses in our body are arranged from right to left.

That is, ascending colon on the right side, transverse colon in the middle and colon on the left side. Descending colon from the left side then joins the anus. If oil is applied to the stomach in a clockwise direction from right to left, Abhyanga also complements bowel movements and helps to push stools forward. Abhyanga is beneficial in clearing bowel movements.

It also improves circulation. The vertebrae are stacked on top of each other. Abhyanga should be done in a straight direction from the monkey bone up to the neck and then rub outwards. That is, by applying oil on the spines, the oil also reaches the nerves. When applying on the face, apply this oil on the cheeks from inside to outside and from the neck to the chin.

Abhyanga does not take more than ten minutes. It is not expected to rub. If the body is flexible, the entire body can be oiled and rubbed with one's own hands. Doing it daily definitely increases flexibility. By doing it before bath, excess oil will be removed with warm water.

A little soap is fine. But application of oat only removes excess sebum. Soap does not dry out the skin. There is a lot of variety in oil. But generally, coconut oil should be applied in summer and sesame oil in monsoons and winters. Apply mustard oil if it is very cold.

Happy Diwali to you and your family
